Spares are used when a team member cannot show up to play. This policy sets out guidelines for the use of spares. Spares are critical to the smooth functioning of leagues in any curling club and must be handled in a fair manner. The sparing guidelines below have been created in the spirit of good sportsmanship and fair play.
In league and playoff games, each team must include a minimum of two(2) original team players. This allows for a maximum of two (2) spares per game.
If a team fails to abide by the above policy, the game is forfeited, and the opposing team gets an automatic win.
Curling teams may have fifth and sixth players. The team owner must register these players. Registered fifth and sixth players are not restricted to the number of times they play on that team.
In the event of forfeiture, it is encouraged to play the game for fun and practice even though the outcome of the game has been predetermined.
